Alex Astbury

Alex Astbury is a Birmingham based musician crafting expressive, genre blending music that merges rich harmony with contemporary jazz influences and modern production. Alex is an active figure in the UK jazz scene, currently performing, composing, and contributing to some of Birmingham’s most exciting musical spaces. As a member of the committee for the Birmingham Jazz Orchestra and part of the team behind the award-winning Digbeth Jazz night, Alex continues to shape and support a thriving creative community.

Rather than following a traditional path, Alex’s musical journey has been defined by collaboration, experimentation, and a deep-rooted connection to live performance. Immersed in Birmingham’s vibrant grassroots scene, Alex has developed a voice that stands apart—one that embraces both the heritage of jazz and the energy of modern genres. This openness has led to the creation of “Diddy Sweg,” a project that reflects a playful yet sophisticated approach to composition and identity, pushing beyond conventional boundaries.

What sets Alex apart is not only musicianship but a commitment to building platforms for others. Through involvement with Digbeth Jazz and the Birmingham Jazz Orchestra, Alex has helped cultivate spaces where emerging and established artists can connect and innovate. These roles highlight a broader artistic vision—one that extends beyond performance into curation, leadership, and community-building.
